[kartɔ̃də'vjaːr], Henri Victor Comte de, belgischer Schriftsteller und Politiker, * Brüssel 31. 1. 1869, ✝ ebenda 6. 5. 1951; Jurist, Mitglied der Katholischen Partei, seit 1896 Abgeordneter, war 1911-18 Justizminister, 1920/21 Ministerpräsident, 1932-34 Sozialminister Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg beteiligte er sich maßgeblich an der Gründung der christlich-sozialen Partei; 1950 versuchte er vergeblich, König Leopold III. auf den Thron zurückzuführen. C. schrieb Romane, deren Hintergrund meist Belgiens Geschichte bildet, sowie sozialpolitische Essays.
